Judi/Lyn/Frank + Adam Schiff
To: Judi/Lyn/Frank + Adam Schiff
One a (perhaps former) friend, a recent friend (long-time
ago university classmate), my cousin and one of my U.S. Senators – all of you
are fellow Jews – all of you are people who I presume Care about Life and
People!
We Differ Strongly, Deeply about – Israel and the
Palestinians!
I’m guessing that the four of you – all fear – the Palestinian
People – Hamas specifically and if not (perceived) aggression – dating at least
back to 1948.
I grew up strongly believing in Israel! I remember in 1968 when I began to see that
The War in Vietnam was 100% wrong – that we were lied to about – the supposed
aggression of the North Vietnamese People.
Here – below is a picture of me, age 17, my maternal grand-father was
nearby (I was with him on his first trip to Israel, my 2nd trip) at
The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
I remember, circa 1980, being with one or more relatives in
Israel celebrating Israeli Independence Day – the main street filled with
celebrants.
During the 1980’s my views related to Israel began changing
in significant ways! I had read Exodus,
biographies of people like David Ben-Gurion and Golda Meir and a fair number of
books about Israel itself. I began
reading writings of Noam Chomsky and other Jewish authors.
In 1987, when living in Madison, Wisconsin, I went to see
Louis Farrakhan speak at the University of Wisconsin at a free event (I would
not have paid to see him speak). I
wanted to understand both his charisma and his virulent Anti-Semitism. I’m glad I went! I learned a lot, and realized he was even
worse, than I’d perceived him. Looking
back now I would say that because of his relatively limited “power”, and the fact that his followers were nearly
all, if not all, doing things like murdering Jews, he wasn’t and isn’t a danger
to we Jews. (Per Wikipedia his birthday
is five days before mine and he is 18 years older than I am.
In 1987 also, I wrote a (snail) letter to the Israeli
Consulate in San Francisco (outside of which I’ve protested multiple times since
October 7, 2023). They replied and told
me that: “you are listening to too much
Arab Propaganda”.
Given that I had Not read writings of people like Edward
Said, nor Rashid Khalidi then, only, or nearly only fellow Jews, I didn’t have
respect for their response.
--
I have no doubt that October 7, 2023 was a traumatic day for
you, in a similar way to how you view The Holocaust and perhaps September 11,
2001!
I was in Madison for my 50th (University) Reunion
(where I first met you, Lyn) in mid-October, 2023. While there I
met my cousin Esty Dinur - https://spinitron.com/WORT/dj/122910/Esty-Dinur
- an Israeli-American, who I have Tremendous Respect for (Frank, you
introduced me to Esty, indirectly- I’d heard of her before, but didn’t realize
that we were [literally]cousins).
Esty was traumatized, having difficulty sleeping, and
more! This was Not – related to our
hundreds (at least) of fellow relatives we each have in Israel! (Note: “Shai” Sy Agnon, Israel’s first Nobel
Laureate -Literature 1966 – was my great-uncle and I think Esty’s Great-Great
Uncle – his wife Esther (Marx) Agnon – was a younger sister of my grandfather
Moses Marx
1
1892 – Moses – lower
left corner – age 7, Esther (Marx Agnon) is one of the younger 2 girls – Hanna not born
yet
Esty was traumatized by the horrors her fellow Palestinian journalists
were facing within the first two weeks of the genocide!
Frank, I was in your condo in Chicago several weeks ago. I read an editorial from the Chicago Tribune
written by Alderman Brendan Reilly (who your wife pointed out “is obviously not
Jewish” –
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/06/12/opinion-antizionism-antesemitism-boulder-attack/
Ald.
Brendan Reilly: You can’t separate anti-Zionism from antisemitism — and we must
stop pretending you can
which spoke of the clearly Anti-Semitic attack in Boulder
and the targeted killing of young Israeli employee’s at the Israeli Embassy in
Washington, D.C.
I heard No words from your wife or you (Frank) about the
deliberate starvation of Gazan children that increasingly is killing children
and adults. A Generation of Gazan
Children and their parents and grandparents – when/if they survive – are facing
Deep Trauma that will impact them and future generations deeply.
I’ve heard no words from you – Lyn and Judi – and Judi – you
must see my Facebook postings and no longer dialogue with me or respond when I have
reached out to you (though you may have “liked” a few unrelated postings of
mine unrelated to Israel). Lyn – I give
you credit – Deep Positive Feelings for you – though we’re not close friends –
in that you respond to Facebook postings of mine in other areas, and show a
caring for me as a person.
I’m curious about All of you – except you Adam
Schiff??????
How can you remain silent – utterly silent – about THE
GENOCIDE! I can not imagine that you
are protected (as most Israel Jews are) from the daily images of The Genocide –
that even The New York Times occasionally shows!
Adam Schiff - you
have No Excuses! I have NO respect for
you at all! The U.S. Government – pre-Donald
Trump and On Steroids Now – with his “leadership” – is the:
“Energizer Battery – see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2qCPXTiFUk
– which keeps The Genocide Going and Going and Going!
If you were to 100% - cut off Funding for Israel – Now:
1.)
The worst of the Genocide- the Bombing and Drone
Attacks – and probably the Mass Starvation would end, because,
2.)
The Israeli Economy would otherwise Collapse
AND:
HAMAS – would Not – destroy Israel – and massive numbers of
Jews would not be killed! Israel – has nuclear
weaponry. The Palestinians – including Hamas
– have No Air Force!
We, the People of the United States are complicit in the
Genocide! It is Genocide!

I’m certain not nearly all, if not all of you have never
heard of Hajo Meyer. I had never heard
of him until 2024. Through my curiosity,
I researched him and even five months ago met his niece who is close to my age
at her home. She loved her uncle and
told me about him (she is Not an “activist” as I am, but is a very nice person)
In last interview, Auschwitz survivor urged Palestinians
“not to give up their fight”

August 2014
Hajo Meyer at his home in Heiloo, Netherlands on 29 July
2014.
Adri Nieuwhof
I mourn the loss of Hajo Meyer, a friend who fearlessly
raised his voice to combat Zionism and to express his support for the struggle
of the Palestinian people for freedom and equality. Hajo passed away in his
sleep on 23 August, just days after his ninetieth birthday.
Hajo was born in 1924 and had to flee alone from Nazi
Germany at the age of 14 because the Nazis would not allow him to attend school
anymore. His parents sent him to the Netherlands in January 1939.
A year later, the Netherlands was occupied by Germany. In
1943, Hajo went into hiding but was captured by the Gestapo in March 1944 and
deported to the Auschwitz death camp where the Nazis tattooed number “179679”
on his arm.
After the war, Meyer returned to the Netherlands where he
had a long career as a physicist. He also took up making violins in his
retirement.
In a previous interview with
The Electronic Intifada, Hajo said: “For as long as I can, I will continue to
utter my criticism of inhuman Zionist behavior.”
On 29 July, I traveled to Meyer’s home in Heiloo in the
Netherlands, to discuss the Israeli onslaught on Gaza, where the tired Hajo
gave The Electronic Intifada his last interview.
I asked Hajo how he felt. “I can’t answer you positively,
due to old age which prevents me from any activity in supporting the
Palestinians,” he replied. “To be that old comes with such great loss of
capacities, it is quite a task,” he said.
He reflected on how lucky he was to survive Auschwitz with
some comrades.
Reber Dosky, a Kurdish refugee residing in the Netherlands,
made My Good Fortune in Auschwitz (2012), a short documentary about Hajo’s
survival with his comrade Jos Slagter. In the documentary, Hajo plays one of
the melancholic Yiddish tunes he used to test the sound of the violins he had
made (watch it below — with English subtitles).
“Nazi criminals”
When I spoke to him, Hajo denounced Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusations that the large demonstrations against Israel’s
attacks on Gaza are an expression of an increasing hatred against Israel.
“If we want to stay really human beings, we must get up and
call the Zionists what they are: Nazi criminals,” Meyer said. The hate of the
Jews by the Germans “was less deeply rooted than the hate of the Palestinians
by the Israeli Jews,” he observed. “The brainwashing of the Jewish Israeli
populations is going on for over sixty years. They cannot see a Palestinian as
a human being.”
While discussing Europe’s response to Israel’s policies,
Hajo said that Europe should respond with “a much more large scale boycott of
Israel” than a ban on settlement products. If we Europeans pretend to hold high
the flag of humanity with what is happening in Gaza, Israel should be outcasted
by us.”
I asked him if he had a message for the Palestinians,
Israelis or human rights activists.
“My message for the Palestinians is that they should not
give up their fight,” he replied. “If they give up, they might lose their
self-esteem with the ongoing humiliations by the Israeli Nazis. Fight with
human means. It is justified to show to the Israeli Zionists that you are a
force to reckon with. Fight with stones, with weapons. Yes, also with weapons.
If you don’t fight, you lose your self-esteem and will not be respected by the
Israelis.”
“If we Western democratic societies don’t support the
Palestinians in their fight, we must feel ashamed if the Palestinians are
annihilated. The US and the European Union must show their teeth,” he added.
Hajo was one of more than forty survivors of the Nazi
genocide who recently signed a letter condemning
Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
In May, Hajo
Meyer’s letters to his family written between July 1939 and 1945 were published in Germany.
Hajo Meyer, thank you for your humanity, your dignity, your
love and your consistent support to defending human rights.
Google: “Hajo
Meyer”. Read his words! So much of what he wrote sounds like it
might have been written since October 7. 2023, and Hajo died in 2014!
Concluding,
this writing, I’m sad! Rashida Tlaib –
should not be in danger of assassination every day! Look at the two pictures that follow, one
from Berkeley – at the MECA (Middle East Children’s Alliance) Major Fundraiser –

https://www.mecaforpeace.org/. The second phone is from – December 9, 2023 – when I met
Tlaib at the Bisharat residence in the East Bay near Berkeley. The Most Understandable – Aging – visible –
in Tlaib – is a Direct Result of The Genocide!
