Y Wood U – Support DT?

DT – The Republican candidate for President clearly appeals to many people – who say that they will vote for him.   This seems to be a mystery to many!

+ OTHER PEOPLE – see no reason to vote for Kamala Harris – or for many to vote for any Presidential Candidate in 2024

I will try to address these issues below, though Ole George – don’t see it all!

FIRST ARE THE SIMPLE ONES – for many people DT is clearly:

1.    Racist – says clearly racist things

2.    Sexist – says clearly sexist things

3.    Islamaphobic – says extremely negative things about people of the Muslim faith

4.    Selective – Alien/Foreigner – phobic – sometimes – often now – Mexican People –  (+ other) People who are coming into the U.S. via land from Mexico + supposedly/seemingly people from Haiti, Venezuela etc.

These things appeal to many people!   They will often overlook “major flaws” – related in part to their fears – their trauma(s) – and their hatred – in various ways.

NEXT: - the – “ANTI-DEMOCRATIC PARTY” + “anti-Joe Biden” + “anti-Kamala Harris perspective including:

1.    Those who are tired of hearing that they are “doing better” than four years ago – and note that they are paying a lot more today for any and often all of:

a.     Rent (or mortgage payments),

b.    Food

c.     Utilities

d.    Medical care

and: 

Their Income has either gone up marginally, not gone up at all or has gone down,

2.    Those who are quite aware of how – they are “IMPORTANT” – to the Democratic Party – particularly – related to the Presidency – for less than 1/1461th of the time (An election for president of the United States happens every four years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The next presidential election will be November 5, 2024.

a.     *Black People – who lack privilege (e.g. those whose incomes and wealth are not in the upper 5-20% or so) - * Not all Black People ally themselves with KH because she is Black )

b.    Latino/Latina/LatinX – People – particularly where they see themselves as being “white”

c.     Others – who may be gay/Lesbian/Queer/Gender-Non-Binary etc – and have other Identities which may make the former identities not their “primary identity” – such as a lot of wealthy gay male couples

3.    People whose fears coincide with values (or perceived values) of Democrats such as:

a.     Supporters of unions

b.    Supporters of abortion

c.     (Those questioning/fearing the) education their children get in public schools

4.    One Issue People – who are VERY clear – that the killing (since 10/7/23) of a lot of people in Gaza, and increasing numbers in The West Bank, and “old” (Israel) – Palestinian People – could NOT happen without the STRONG support of the Israeli Government – and that while JB and KH – have talked of supporting a “lasting ceasefire”, N (the Israeli prime minister) has basically “taunted” them – escalating the violence every time JB has threatened to cut-down or end particular U.S. funding of Israel – particularly related to armaments – which are directly killing Gazans.

a.     A significant majority of USians support an unconditional permanent ceasefire,

b.    A much higher percentage of professed “Democrats” support a  ceasefire as is noted in a. above

c.     Weapons production – and giving (and occasionally selling) them to Israel primarily supports Large Corporations – helping far, far fewer USians than – supporting:  housing, food, medical care in the U.S.

d.    Hypocrisies – related to Ukraine (vs. Putin/Russia) (,Sudan), and Israel/Palestinians – such as – supporting:  “International Law” – as well as following actual U.S. laws – which we, e.g. Joe Biden openly do

e.    People who listen to Amy Goodman and Democracy Now – rather than believing in for example:  CNN, MSNBC + The NY Times – those who listen and hear voices like Rashid Khalidi and of course Rashida Tlaib

f.      Michigan is a critical state for Kamala Harris in 2024.   Those who will NOT vote for KH may end up “causing” DT to win there– absent some hope – perhaps 20-35% hope, rather than the current hope (probably 1-5% if that) – that a JUST Peace will be Possible (a Huge, Huge Change since 1948, and for some since much earlier).   The hope has risen for some, but far from enough!

NOTE: POLLING – PREDICTING THE ELECTION AND SIMILAR:

1.    Polling often doesn’t ask people – IF they will vote, what will keep them from voting and similar – it presumes a simple binary: “all will vote – for the Dem or Rep”

2.    Turnout – is Key – somewhat not fully predictable yet – sustaining the momentum for KH now seems mostly premised upon DT and his VP candidate continuing to Self-Destruct.   This may happen, but then it may slow down

3.    There is a significant danger of a DT victory.    There are significant dangers even if KH wins the election.    Violence – overthrowing – the Government has not succeeded before – but there are scary parallels with Germany leading up to 1933 – and the years immediately following it.   I’ve heard that basically 80% of the People – will go along with (basically) Fascism. 

4.    60% - at least of those around us care most deeply now about “immediate” things in their/our lives – which includes local sports teams, Taylor Swift, Broadway plays and similar – as well as being directly focused upon their/our making their salary/paycheck, raising their children (as things are now) and similar.

5.    It may take somewhere vaguely in the range of 10% - of those among us – being DEEEEEEPLY committed – putting our bodies and even our lives on the line if/when necessary.

6.    Those of us with Privilege – Power – have:

a.      a disproportionate amount of potential power

b.    The strongest dis-incentives – to “do the work” – to “risk” anything substantive

c.     White Men – are by far – the least “there” and the least likely to “be there”.

7.    Those with significantly less privilege are already doing the work!    Many of us need to ally ourselves with them and sometimes become “co-conspirators” – being the “shield” – that protects the woman/girl being threatened – because she/they supports Abortion Directly, or more significantly some of the time – shielding the BIPOC – from direct harm from the Police, the Courts, the Politicians, and those who show their hatred so clearly – on our streets.

I’M NO “HERO”!    I TRY AND SEEK TO DO MORE THAN I’M DOING!   WHEN YOU SAY: “not me” or “I’m too busy” …. (your inaction supports DT and a horrible state of affairs, far worse than I can see)

I make as many mistakes as you do!   I hope that you will show me - where I’m short-sighted and/or wrong.   Ridiculing me – just as ridiculing DT – does little beyond making all of us feel good about ourselves, while AVOIDING RESPONSIBILITY for what will happen November 5^th.
