The Will to Change: men, masculinity and love - Men's Work

bell hooks' The Will to Change - is a most welcome read - for men and those who care about men!  Hooks shows a lot of compassion for us men, while making clear how we need to do our own work.   The book is helpful in part because of the many examples hooks gives related to her father and others in her family.  Particularly poignant is how she described her brother.  She spoke significantly of how a gentle boy hardened into a "man" - in ways that made his life much more challenging for him.

This book will make all who read it - think - a lot!  The only weakness I see in the book is the failure to discuss male friendships with other men which are deep and meaningful and how important ties between men are.

Still a great read!
