The 2nd Amendment: It's Very Important!
PREAMBLE
In the mid- and late-1950’s, during my childhood,
television shows like The Rifleman and Gunsmoke were very popular. Television, however, wasn’t part of my
life. My father wouldn’t allow us to be
brought away from reading for it. Toy
guns were popular toys for boys around me.
My father forbade even squirt guns, because they were guns. Perhaps, not surprisingly, I’ve supported limiting
the possession of guns for most of my 70 years!

Most Republicans would support
legislation banning assault-style weapons, a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll
found Wednesday — a finding that contradicts President Donald Trump's claim
earlier the same day that there's "no political appetite" for such
restrictions.
The poll found that nearly 70 percent
of all voters would back such a ban. Support for an assault-weapons ban was
higher, at 86 percent, among Democrats, who have been pushing for new
restrictions on the firearms in the wake of two mass shootings over the
weekend.
Republicans typically are more reticent
to support new gun restrictions, and Trump campaigned in 2016 on his strong
support for the Second Amendment. But the poll found that 55 percent of GOP
voters were comfortable with banning assault weapons, and 54 percent said they
would support stricter gun laws more generally. Ninety percent said they would
back universal background checks for gun sales.

Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) challenged Democrats
to pursue Biden’s call to enact a ban on semiautomatic rifles known as assault
weapons.
“It won’t get 50 votes, much less 60,” Graham predicted on “Fox News
Sunday,” offering an oft-mentioned personal rationale for permitting sales of
AR-15s and other popular assault-style firearms.
“I own an AR-15,” Graham said. “If there’s a natural disaster in
South Carolina where the cops can’t protect my neighborhood, my house will be
the last one that the gang will come to, because I can defend myself.”

THE PROPOSAL:
Lindsay Graham’s hometown area is around Anderson and
Greenwood, South Carolina. Anderson’s
Black population is approximately 31% of local residents. Greenwood’s Black population is approximately
45% of local residents.
Perhaps we should start by raising money to help Black
residents of Lindsay Graham’s area to protect their neighborhoods against
natural disasters. As Lindsay Graham
indicates, AR-15’s will be among the best ways of defending themselves against “the
gangs”. Now, only law-abiding citizens
will receive AR-15’s, of course.
Then, perhaps, we should move to Louisville, Kentucky,
the hometown of Mitch McConnell, where 23.6% of the population is Black. There must be a lot of Black law-abiding
citizens who don’t own AR-15’s.
Then,
perhaps, we should add Texas, the home of both Governor Greg Abbott and Ted
Cruz. Yesterday’s news stated in
part: Texas bill to carry gun without permit
advances to state senate
If passed, Texans over age 21 could
carry a gun without training or a background check. The state would be the 14th
to have such a law
CONCLUSION:
We’ve been told over and over again that
“we leftists” are falsely accusing so many Republicans of being racist! Let’s see how many of those who oppose the
will of the majority of Americans rush to the support of our effort to protect
Black Americans! I’m not holding my
breath!
