A Meaningful Moment!

 

Coming back from the gym close to 6:00 a.m. this morning on my bicycle, I was startled, when a glasses case glanced off my backpack.  I looked up and saw what looked like a young teenage (probably Latino) boy appearing to snicker looking out of the back seat window of a car that had passed me.

On my rides to and from the gym there are always street sex workers standing at some of the corners.   I was at the edge of this area and saw what appeared to be a sex worker standing near the corner.

I stopped to warn her to be careful.



We had a most pleasant 15-20 minute conversation.   I felt a connection to her and I believe she did with me.   While she is quite physically attractive, what drew me was her honesty, her depth of thought and feelings and more.

What do I, a cis-hettish, upper-middle class white man have in common with an almost 30 year old Black young woman working along the street?

We are both caring people who appreciate human connection and kindness.

Will we see each other again?   Possibly.

Are either of us out to “use” the “other”?

Not in the way you might be thinking!

She is a caring, loving young person!

I appreciate you (her) very much!

Our paths in life are very different!

We did meet for a reason!

Big Girls Don't Cry

BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY My father (Menachem) Imanuel Marx died Friday, November 13, 1964, when I was 13 years old.    My mother woke my brother and I up with the news early that morning.    We went to the hospital and saw him for the last time. I didn’t cry then.       Daniel and I went to school that day.   I didn’t tell anyone. Two days later at the funeral, I was still being “a man” (i.e. not crying).   Until I was in my second men’s group around age 31, I didn’t allow myself to cry .    I rationalized this by saying to myself:   “ How does x compare with the death of my father ?”.
