HANGIN' WITH HOUND DOG TAYLOR!
Yeah, Hound Dog was like a Blues Sheriff and I was glad to be his deputy. Now the band's wives , Hound Dog's sister Lucy and my wife Peggy started the House Rockers social club and besides their regular meetings would have occasional gambling parties and dances with group's like Hound Dog's, J. B. Hutto's and Magic Slim's providing the music festivities. On one of the nights Hound Dog's amplifier was acting up so he deputized me to 'go down to the Chekerboard, and Wesley, go get Buddy Guy to get me an amp." So off I went. When I got down on 43rd street I approached Buddy and was disappointed when he told me he couldn't help Hound Dog out, oh well. Luckily Junior Wells overheard our conversation and came to Hound Dog's rescue with an amplifier which saved the night.
Yeah, Hound Dog and I were friends and I was touched when he called me one night from the South Side's Queen Bee Lounge saying "Man, get down here quick. I'm playing with Pinetop Perkins. Just me." So I quickly told my wife what was up, sped over to Queen Bee's and got to hear some great Blues courtesy of Pinetop and the Hound. The extra treat was hearing Hound Dog tackle a bunch of tunes he normally didn't do cause it was essentially Pinetop's gig.
